Paddy straw (rice straw) pellets in India are commonly quoted around ₹6,000–9,000 per tonne ex-plant in bulk, before GST and freight. Small retail bags cost more per kg. The exact rate depends on feedstock season, moisture and ash quality, order size, and delivery distance — so a live quote against your tonnage is the only firm number.
How paddy straw pellets are priced
Paddy straw pellets are priced per tonne (or per kg for small quantities). Because rice straw is an abundant crop residue, these pellets sit at the lower end of the biomass fuel market — cheaper than wood pellets, and competitive with coal on a delivered-heat basis.
Two prices matter. The ex-plant (or ex-works) price is the rate at the factory gate. The delivered price adds freight to your location and any GST. When you compare suppliers, always confirm which of the two you're being quoted, and whether GST is included.

What drives the price
Two quotes for the same fuel can differ for good reasons. These are the levers that move the number:
Feedstock & season
Straw is cheapest and most available right after the paddy harvest. Off-season, feedstock costs rise and so does the pellet price.
Moisture & ash
Rice straw is naturally high in ash and silica. Cleaner, drier, lower-ash pellets burn better and command a higher rate.
Order quantity
Full-truckload and recurring bulk orders get the best per-tonne rate. Small or one-off quantities cost more per kg.
Freight & location
Pellets are bulky to move. The further you are from the plant, the more freight adds to the delivered price.
GST & compliance
Confirm whether a quote is inclusive or exclusive of GST, and whether it covers loading and documentation.
Grade & diameter
Consistent 6–10 mm pellets with low fines and stable density are priced above loose, crumbly, or off-spec material.
How the price compares
Indicative ex-plant ranges against other solid fuels. Paddy straw pellets trade lower because their calorific value is lower and ash is higher — but delivered cost per unit of heat is often very competitive.
| Fuel | Indicative price (₹/tonne) | Calorific value | Ash | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paddy straw pelletsRecommended | ₹6,000–9,000 | 3,000–3,600 kcal/kg | 12–20% | Boilers, mushroom substrate |
| Wood pellets | ₹9,000–12,000 | 4,000–4,800 kcal/kg | < 1.5% | Premium / low-ash boilers |
| Biomass briquettes | ₹6,500–9,500 | 3,500–4,200 kcal/kg | 5–12% | Bulk furnaces, kilns |
| Coal (steam) | Market-linked | 4,000–6,000 kcal/kg | 10–40% | Legacy high-emission heat |
Bulk & recurring supply
If you fire pellets month after month, don't buy on spot rates. Share your monthly tonnage, delivery pincode, and boiler specs, and ask for a rate held over a fixed term. Recurring contracts smooth out seasonal swings and almost always beat one-off pricing.
For mushroom growers and smaller users, buying by the pallet rather than the bag brings the per-kg cost down significantly while keeping quality consistent.
Send us your monthly tonnage and delivery pincode for current ex-plant and delivered rates — no guesswork.
